USA win close battle against Mexico

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 13, 2021 – Three-time defending champions United States recovered from losing the first set to claim a hard-fought victory 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 26-24, 29-27) over Mexico in the second match of opening day at the Women’s Pan American Cup on Monday.

Veronica Perry scored a match-high 27 points, including four aces, as the offensive star for the American squad, followed by Danielle Cuttino and Linday Stalzer with 18 and 11 points, respectively. 

Samantha Bricio led Mexico with 21 points, 10 of them in the long fourth set, while María Rodríguez added 18. 

The United States led in the blocking category 13-5 and Mexico had the upper hand in serving aces 11-8.
