Bethania to play in new U.S. Volleyball League

SANTO DOMINGO, February 15, 2021 - Dominican volleyball player Bethania De la Cruz has joined the select group of players who will give life to the new league in the United States.

De la Cruz has been an important part of the success of the Dominican Republic national team in the last decade.

"Well, although training is not the same as playing, in recent months I have been training in my country and I think that with the level of training it will be less difficult to adapt," De la Cruz told PV MEDIA SPORTS.

De la Cruz will be one of 40 players who will make their debut with the new league organized by the company, Athletes Unlimited, which will be based in the city of Dallas, Texas.

The American league presents performance rules that in turn will be the format that will give the money each player wins per game. The regular season will begin on February 27 and will last for five weeks. The league will have four teams, while a total of 40 players will be active in the tournament, prior to each week of competition the players will be distributed by teams.

Regarding the experience of participating in the league, the stellar attacker commented, “For me, it is an honor that I have been invited and chosen to play in this league in its first edition and obviously representing the Caribbean and my country always fills me with pride. I feel good, positive for this new experience, a long time without playing, but I think that the same different format will make it fun," said the player who will wear the number 81 on her uniform.

It will be the eighth professional league for De la Cruz that she had the first experience of it was in 2007 in Puerto Rico with the disappeared Vaqueras de Bayamón, then she returned in 2011 to support the Caguas Criollas championship. Other leagues where she has played are Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Indonesia and Turkey.

The new league will have among its players the iconic Puerto Rican attacker, Aury Cruz and the liberos, Nomarie Vélez and Dalianliz Rosado, as well as Brazilian, Sheila Castro and American, Jordan Larson.

In recent days it was announced that matches of the league will be televised by two major networks in the United States.
