Azair is back at home after two weeks in hospital with Covid-19

MONTERREY, Mexico, May 16, 2020 - Mexican coach Jorge Azair is back at home in good spirits after two weeks of hospitalization affected by Covid-19.

Azair, who coached the Mexican men's national team at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 after a hiatus of 48 years, was discharged from University Hospital of Nuevo Leon after a negative test as he reported in his facebook account.

"Friends, family, family of volleyball. With great joy I inform you that I have already been discharged, now only to continue taking care of ourselves from home. I am immensely grateful for your prayers, good wishes and displays of affection. Eternal thanks," Azair said in his account.

Azair, who is a coach for State Sport Institute (INDE), thinks he was infected with the virus during a visit to Mexico City where he felt the symptoms and was tested positive.

Jesus Perales, director of INDE an president of the Mexican Volleyball Federation joined hundreds of players and former volleyball players in expressing their joy for the recovery of Coach Azair.

Azair has served as instructor in several courses and seminars organized by the NORCECA/FIVB Regional Development Center in the Dominican Republic and is very popular in the volleyball community.

Azair is expected to be back at the helm of Tigers Teams of the Mexican League in the second semester of the year.
