These two teams played in pool-play at a totally different pace, setting a new record for the highest scoring set (38-36) in Pan Am Cup history, but still with the same outcome of Dominicans beating the Central American team.

Dominican Republic drops one position from the past edition and Guatemala improves in one.

Dominican Republic outnumbered Guatemala 52-42 in attacks, 6-3 in blocks and 1-0 in aces. Guatemalans committed just one less error (18-19) than Dominicans.

Henry Tapia and Hector Cruz led Dominicans with double digits, scoring 20 and 19 points accordingly. Carlos Lopez scored 12 points for Guatemala, while Wagner Chacon and Gerardo Gonzalez added 9 points apiece.

Alexander Gutiérrez, coach Dominican Republic: "I am satisfied, we were able to face highly competitive teams like United States, Canada and Chile. Today's goal was beating Guatemala but we must improve in reception to compete better. We changed our team just weeks before coming here so in the end the results were satisfying".

Reider Lucas, coach Guatemala: "My guys gave their best, there are things still to achieve and work on our errors. I believe we could have done better today but despite bringing new players, Guatemala did well in the tournament; it was our first international event of the year. Now we have the continental championship and this was a good preparation".
