Seilhamer reaches 6,000 defenses in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, March 11, 2019 - The Libero, Debora Seilhamer reached the historic figure of 6,000 defensive digs on Sunday March 10, and following the feat she attributed the achievement to sacrifice in all aspects to continue an outstanding career.

Seilhamer who plays with the Chicks of Aibonito reached the feat in the fourth set of the game against Llaneras de Toa Baja.

 After achieving the 6,000 defenses that comes to mind to Seilhamer, "The 7,000 (hahaha), but the reality is that what leads any athlete to attain achievements like this are years of sacrifice, training, discipline, effort, dedication and commitment".

The Ponce-born natural defensive specialist has had great achievements in her career, including a championship title in the Women's Senior Volleyball League with Cataño in 2012, being part of the team that saw action at the Olympic Games in Rio, 2016, different awards at International events (including the Most Valuable of the Central American and Caribbean Games, Mayagüez 2010), All American and collegiate champion in the United States.

 "I really feel very satisfied and pleased with my sports career both with teams that I played and also as individual, it is great to know that my name is in the history of Puerto Rican sports. In the same way, this entails a great responsibility, which I assume with seriousness since I know that I am an example and model for the youth that practices the sport," Seilhamer said to the website of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation.

Seilhamer has seen action in the LVSF with Guayanilla (2001, where she was rookie of the year), Ponce (2002), Mayagüez (2007-11), Cataño 2012-16 and currently with Aibonito.

The lawyer by profession is also the historic leader in defenses in the league with 6,004.
