Caribeñas edge Cristo Rey for a tie in first place

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 14, 2018 - Caribeñas defeated Cristo Rey in a roller-coaster contest 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13) volleyball match of the National District Tournament of Santo Domingo on Friday night.

Both teams are now tied with a 4-1 mark but Cristo Rey gets the edge in points obtained from the results 20-18.

Prisilla Rivera led the winners with 24 points, followed by Lisvel Eve with 18. Annerys Vargas and Candida Arias added 14 and 9 points, respectively, in the victory.

Gaila González had 23 points in the losing cause while Madeline Guillen and Erica Asencio each charted 12 points. Marianne Fersola and Marifranchi Rodríguez finished with 10 and 9 points.

In the second match of the evening, Mirador scored their first victory of the tournament with a five-set victory against Guerreras 3-2 (25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 12-25, 15-8).

Natalia Martinez was the best scorer for Mirador with 23 points. Yaneris Rodríguez and Yanlis Feliz added 16 and 13 points, respectively, and Geraldine González had 11 points.

For Guerreras, Jeoselyna Rodríguez and Erasma Moreno had 19 and 18 points, respectively, while Yineris Martínez and Angelica Hinojosa finished with 11 and 10.

Cristo Rey meets Guerreras and Caribeñas square off against Mirador when the tournament resumes on Sunday.
