The event will be disputed every year in early January during the break of the foreign leagues where the most important players of both countries play as reinforcements.

The announcement was made by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA Confederation and of the Female Program of Dominican Republic, and Dr. Cesar Trabanco, president of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation.

The hosting country is going to be alternated which means that in 2021 a Dominican city will welcome the attractive competition given the long sport rivalry between these two top ranked teams.

The format of the Caribbean Series could be reformulated in the future to expand to a friendly four-team competition, including Cuba and other country of the region.

The Dominican Republic is currently ranked No 10 in the world while Puerto Rico is in the 13th position.

The first Caribbean Series will be played jointly with the Final Four Qualifier to the Pan American Games of Lima, Peru.

The home side and pre-tournament favorite Puerto Rico will play against the strong representatives of Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica and Nicaragua, two capable teams from the Central American zone.

Ahead of these two events, the Puerto Rican team began its preparation over the last weekend and seven athletes currently playing out of the country are expected to report at the end of the month.

Those players are Natalia Valentín, Stephanie Enright, Daly Santana, Pilar Marie Victoriá, Raymariely Santos, Ana Sofía Jusino and Julymar Otero.

The match of the Caribbean Series will cap the daily action of the Qualification Tournament and the tickets sales will start on December 18.
