Costa Rica replaces Cuba in Qualifier to Lima

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, November 27, 2018 - The president of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation, Dr. César Trabanco, confirmed the withdrawal of the Cuban national team from the qualifying tournament for the Pan American Games, Lima 2019.

"The president of the Cuban Federation, made the announcement via mail to our department of international events, then NORCECA confirmed the withdrawal of the Cuban squad and that according to the ranking, Costa Rica enters," Dr. Trabanco explained.

Given the poor performance of Cuba in the past Central American and Caribbean Games, Barranquilla 2018, the Cuban authorities decided to make a renewal and for that reason they will not seek qualification to the Pan American Games.

The tournament to be played from January 4 to 6, 2019, at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum will grant a single ticket to the games that will take place during the summer in Peru.

Puerto Rico Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica will compete for the remaining berth to Lima.
