Mireya Luis voted as member of FIVB Board of Administration

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, February 6, 2021 – Cuban legendary former star player Mireya Luis was the most voted candidate for the position of gender in minority member in the FIVB Board of Administration.

The three-time Olympic champion received 137 vote while Scotland’s Margaret Ann Fleming was also elected with 125 votes. Venezuela’s Judith Rodríguez, the third nominated candidate, received 37 votes.

Mireya, who is also a member of the NORCECA’s Board of Administration, participated as key player for the Cubans Women’s teams that captured the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.

Ms. Fleming is the current Chief Executive Officer of the Scotland Volleyball Federation and vice president of the European Volleyball Confederation.

Ms. Rodríguez is the president of the Venezuelan Volleyball Federation and second vice president of the South American Volleyball Confederation.

Also elected by acclamation as FIVB Board members elected by the Continental Confederation were:

Mark Eckert of Canada, Mushtaque Mohammed of Trinidad & Tobago, Glenn Quinlan of St Kitts & Nevis and Felix Sabio of Honduras. Sabina Clement of British Virgin Islands and Allan Sharp of Belize were elected as substitute members.
