PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, October 30, 2015 - The participants in the Evaluation Seminar prior to the XXIII NORCECA Congress in Punta Cana praised the benefits received by their countries through the FIVB programs during the past four years.

Mushtaque Mohamed, president of the Development Commission of NORCECA said all National Federations Category I and II have benefitted from those programs and are now prepared "to make the big jump in the next four-year cycle".

"All the participants from the different zones have expressed satisfaction for the support received thus far and are ready to continue giving their best to expand our sport in their countries," Mohamed said.

The one-day seminar concluded on Friday with FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graca F° commending the hard work by the national federations.

"Nobody is better than anybody, but world we have are people who work and people who don't work," Dr. Graca said.

The president of FIVB said that beach volleyball is better suited for small countries that don't have big population but can field good teams of two individuals.

"For those countries, beach volleyball is the right way to go because of limited population and financial resources," Dr. Graca said.

He also noticed that volleyball is the perfect sport for school programs due to the absence of violence and physical contact between players.

Mohamed made a presentation of the NORCECA Development Program starting from 2011 to 2015 in the different zones of the confederation showing the results attained in both volleyball and beach volleyball at different age groups.

He took time to give credit to the school programs launched in Jamaica and also the U.S. Virgin Islands as well as the results in beach volleyball achieved by small countries like St Lucia, Aruba and Trinidad & Tobago.

Jaime Lamboy, president of the FIVB Legal Commission, took a turn to explain the procedures to correctly organize a National Federation, and Tyrone Marcus, member of NORCECA Legal Commission, explained the importance of having a legally constituted NF.

Diogo Jurema, member of the FIVB Development Department, participated in the seminar explaining the new initiatives and programs of FIVB and the way to access and benefit from it. He also emphasized on the necessity of promoting festivals to motivate young people to practice volleyball.

In the afternoon session, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA, encouraged the participants in the seminar to continue working hard after their goals "with passion, patience and perseverance."

He then presented a short video showing the last 10 seconds of title match won by the Dominican Republic against Brazil at the FIVB Women's U20 World Championship in Puerto Rico.

"Anything, any dream is possible if your work guided by those three words as a motto," Marte Hoffiz said.
