The directors of the course are the experienced FIVB Instructors
Athanasios Papageorgiou of Greece and Ramiro Hart of Curacao.
The opening ceremony was attended by Michael Fennell, President
of Jamaica Olympic Committee, Warrenton Dixon, President of Jamaica
Volleyball Association and Marylin Cunningham, Vice Director of
Foster College.
Also, Reed Sunahara of United States, who is currently in
Jamaica for a one-month period as an advisor for JaVA under the
development plan of NORCECA Confederation, and Yohana Mota, Vice
Director of the FIVB Regional Volleyball Development Center in
Dominican Republic.
The event runs through November 17 and the participants come
from
Anguilla, Aruba, Bahamas, Curacao, Dutch Sint Maarten, French St
Martin, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Eustatius, St Kitts
& Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & Grenadines, Suriname,
Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos and U.S. Virgin
Islands.
Nineteen of the participants are sponsored under the scholarship
program implemented by NORCECA Confederation and the course
includes theoretical and practical sessions at Foster College
facilities.
Papageorgiou is the author of the book "Competitive Volleyball"
whose contents include fundaments of the game, systems, strategies
and counter-strategies and individual, group and team tactics. In
his long career, Hart has worked in Colombia, Spain, Cameroon,
Ecuador, The Netherlands, as well as in several countries of
Central America and the Caribbean region.
